This little taco hut cooks up some seriously delicious food! They are known for their fish tacos (which are awesome!) but their other meats are just as good. Their tacos are twice the size of your average street taco and on Tuesdays you can grab them for $2.50-$2.75 each. I was pleasantly surprised by how soft and fragrant their corn tortillas were, something I've never really noticed with any other taco shops.

Fish (5/5) - Batter is light, crispy, and not greasy. Fish is firm, moist, and flaky. The slaw and crema are a nice balance to the in-house salsa, and the tortilla lends a nice body to the overall bite.

Asada (4/5) - Conventional, but, well executed. I often find carne asada to be under-seared and under-seasoned in many places and that is definitely not the case here. Very good color. Comes topped with guacamole.

Shrimp (5/5) - Tried this on a whim and was not disappointed! Great sear and texture and again--well-seasoned. There's a smoky component to it...chipotle?. Comes topped with slaw and goes great with the salsa roja.

NOTE: They have salsa roja that comes in a squirt bottle that's separate from their salsa bar. It's delicious and I find it goes particularly well with their seafood.

Definitely a must try place. I like this place more than sabrosada, Alberto's, Alejandro's, etc....

The food comes out hot right out of the fryer/kitchen. The fish tacos tastes clean, lightly battered but still crispy, hot and well balanced.  The taquitos are the same. They're hot and crispy. Not soggy and sometimes soft like other mexican places.

Bring cash since it's cash only. Dont expect anything fancy when you come here.

1st and Last (Primera Ves y ultima) went here on my way to class, Seen this place on Facebook. I was not in AWWW at all, average taco, nothing fancy as seen on Facebook. The Fish Taco was good, but the presentation made it sad. The $3.75 dollar shrimp of 4 medium size shrimp with no flavor, couldn't tell if it was Sautéed or boiled. Sucks to see people make a claim, then not back up it up. I love seafood, but enjoy delicious food better. Nomas aquí, no me gusto mucho.

Claiming the best, but not meeting the expectations

Los Cotijas Taco Shop has been our go-to spot for fish tacos for many years now as we love the fish tacos here. They cook it so well and are known for it here.

Outside the restaurant, you will see a sign saying best fish tacos.... Many restaurants have similar signs of "best...." and most restaurants fall short of their claim of being the best but Los Cotijas really is the best Fish Tacos in OC.

The fish tacos are served on 2 tortillas and with cabbage and a sauce they make in-house. There is also an additional spicy red sauce that you can add yourself depending on your spice preference.

So its claimed as Best fish tacos here? Idk bout all that but they are really good, especially the sslsa, n the batter has good texture.

Carne Asada is crispier than expected which is ok and carnitas was very flavorful.

House sauce is unique though. To me it was a highlight

The Downsides... is that it is expensive (even on taco Tuesday) and the napkins are way too thin. If u need to use the bathroom u need to ask for a key a go around the building and its pretty dirty and in need of attention. The location is very small but does feature a patio with seating.

Overall its a good stop if your in the area or from this side of town
